Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss

Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss was made as self expression. They were made using vintage book cut-outs, cardstock, stickers, sequins, and glitter.

These collages were made when I was going through a very messy fallout with a group of “friends”. When I was in a severe depressive mental state, they cut me off and started spreading extremely nasty rumors about me. Upon looking back at the friendship, I realized they did not treat me well at all. These pieces attempt to reflect on the first stages of coming to terms with the way they treated me.

The title was chosen based on a popular phrase at the time of it’s creation. Gaslight shows snakes leading one down a labyrinth of endless hallways whilst telling lies. Gatekeep shows a young woman standing outside a beautiful, happy city who is turning the viewer away. Girlboss shows two young girls gossiping whilst standing amongst powerful images.
